Tonight I'm babysitting. I've got Phaedra while Rob's out, possibly at Substance or maybe at the Cracktory (he wasn't sure when he left the house), but I'm also looking after Galen (5 months old) for Alex & Kelly so that they could go to the Lee Press On & the Nails show at the DNA. They're both sleeping next to me, Phaedra in her Amby (hammock-crib-thingie), Galen in his car seat. Galen was very awake for the first bit, got a bit cranky & tired, and then passed out rather suddenly while I was bouncing him on my knee.

Phaedra had a doctor appt yesterday. For all of you who asked on Thurs, she was 11 lbs & 10 oz, 23 inches. She got 3 shots (vaccinations). Unhappy baby. :( She was kind of off all of yesterday, didn't eat as much (meaning I felt like I was about to pop for much of the evening & night), and made up for it today by wanting to eat all the time. Tired Krys.

Last night I went to the DNA for Meat vs. Death Guild (variously referred to as "Meat Guild" or "Dead Meat"), which was fun. Danced to a few songs and saw a bunch of people (including beckastar, threadwalker, soulrefraction, arborvitae, uloixia, baconmonkey, bodyfour, chainlynx, danarama, dazzlynn, dr_gluck_, joeradio, kildareflame, netik, ousel, pyrokitten_mew, theonlyruth, waffen & yosh among others). The first time I'd been back to DNA in a LONG time. My policy while inhabited by Phaedra was not to go to venues where I'd require earplugs, on the principle that hearing loss should be consensual. Got a ride home from the lovely beckastar, who'd also brought over a dinner for me earlier in the day.

Awwww - I bet Ben and I aren't going to have much social life other than things it's okay to take a baby to. I don't know if I'll feel like I'm missing out on much though.

Galen was the name we'd had picked out for a boy. I'm surprised to see someone else using it (we picked it in part because it wasn't very popular).

I hope you and Rob get a night out together sometime. :-)

Yeah, I don't really want to leave him. Today Dave took him for an hour so I could exercise, though, and that felt great. It is still an ordeal to take him places, but that should change soon.

Yeah, I know. I was surprised. 75th percentile for height & weight. Galen is 95th percentile for height and 50th for weight. Long stringbean baby...

They had a list they were going to choose from when he was born. The name Galen wasn't on it, though they'd considered it at some point. Then he did a flip, just to spite the external version she'd had 2 days earlier, and was breech. He was born via c-section instead of at the birthing center. Alex saw all of the doctors everywhere and the name Galen was suddenly the right one. His middle name is Ulysses.

Thanks! We both feel that we'd go batty if we didn't get to go out sometimes, so you make it work...

Whereas I need some time away. It can't be too long because my boobs will explode, but getting out, even just for a walk up the street to run errands, feels really nice. Of course I know that she's in good hands and I'm reachable by cell phone if needed, but I do need some time to recharge or I get haggard and grumpy.

Depends what you're used to and how your life has been structured previously. We'd be giving up a pretty large chunk of our lives, so we choose to make it work.

Yes, self care is very important for everyone's sakes. The first month was basically about figuring out what to do with him. Now, I'm going to try to reestablish some small sense of an independent life.
