Being in the goth scene really does raise the bar for Halloween costumage. In most any other setting, most of the clubwear that I wear a couple times a week, all year long, would count as an acceptable costume. A corseted dress with a random cheesy accessory would even be impressive. Not so in the goth scene, where people *really* get into the whole thing. The eye-candy is most impressive, but I keep feeling like I ought to contribute more and come up with something witty and original. Meh. So not feeling inspired. And so many costume events in quick succession.... *whine*

Yeah, I know, woe is me. Terrible, horrible that I live in a city that enjoys being silly and creative and fun. Just not really getting into it this year. Bah, humbug! (Wait, wrong holiday...)

See some of you at DG tonight. Not sure exactly what I'm wearing, yet... *sigh*

I've been looking for at least semi-reasonable flights to those down-underie sorts of places and haven't been finding anything. The best that I (and a couple of travel agency places) can find is to the tune of $1300 each, including all of those taxes and fees. Not reasonable in my book. :( And now the time-frame is getting rather compressed as we'd like to go for 3 weeks and need to be back by mid-November. Sad sad. *pout*

Thanks for all of your responses to my previous post, though, and hopefully they'll come in handy in the future. Of course, if any of you happen across applicable flight specials for us, I wouldn't be averse to hearing about them...

Rob and I have been talking for a while about taking a trip to Australia and New Zealand. We're thinking of trying to do it in October or early November of this year, since we've determined that we actually have some time for it. Yeah, it's short notice, we know, but it's not clear when the next opportunity will be do do it.

Anyone have recommendations of good places to look for flights? I know the standard sites, but was thinking that there might be ones more specific to the region. Suggestions?

We're also looking for general travel recommendations for both Australia and New Zealand. Are there places we *have* to see? We're thinking that we probably won't go up to the Great Barrier Reef. I've heard something about taking a train in Australia being a good way to see things. Sydney, Melbourne, outback, etc... Haven't done research on it much yet, and I know even fewer specifics about NZ.

It'll be so nice to be home. I'm pretty exhausted at this point. It's been good to see east coast people (however briefly), but it'll be soooooo nice to sleep in my own bed. We're not getting in to SFO until 9:30pm. I'm not convinced we'll make it to DG tomorrow, though Rob seems to have faith...

About to leave for 5-ish days in NJ, with a quick jaunt to NYC in there. We're going for Rob's step-brother's wedding, which is on Sat. Hopefully I'll keep up with everything by stealing some bandwidth on the laptop, but no promises. Have a good weekend, everyone.

It seems that people store up all of their events and parties to coincide with conferences that Rob's attending. Rob's in Edinburgh right now, and this weekend in SF (and environs) has been insane. Two parties on Friday, two parties and a club on Sat, and today there's the Dore Alley Fair, two parties and a BBQ, all in the afternoon. I'm trying to convince myself that I actually want to leave the house and make it to at least *ONE* of these things. As far as I know, there's only DG tomorrow, so that's back to normal. *whew!*

Not a problem really, but even I have limits on my social butterfly-ness....

Anyone else planning to be at Strangelove tomorrow/Thurs night? Thinking I might make an appearance, albeit a bit late, as I'll be coming from a gathering on the penninsula.

For Fri, I was thinking La Luna Rouge, and *maybe* quickly dropping in at Fencesitter's at Rawhide. What else is going on this weekend? Yeah, yeah, I know about the Dyke March & the Pride Parade.

Got to SFO last night around 11pm, then home via cab. Yay to be home! Sleeping in our own bed is particularly nice. Just unpacked everything, though not everything is put away yet. Need to go food shopping quite soon....

The last couple of days in NJ with the in-laws went fine. Got to visit [livejournal.com profile] shabet in Philly on Mon night, which was nice, as she'd missed Reunions and I'd missed her on her visit to SF.

So what's going on this weekend? I'm a bit out of the loop at the moment...

Survived reunions. So so tired. Must sleep soon, and hopefully I'll manage to catch up somewhat. Reunions were good. Got to see a bunch of folks, and of course there was the Wildcat arch-sing, P-rade and the fireworks. Got a bunch of exercise from baby-lifting & swinging around. My efforts to entertain kids tend to entertain the adults around me as well, which is all good.

Got picked up by Rob's dad & stepmom this morning. We're at their place now. Get to play with the kitten they're baby-sitting. *mrow* My eyes are periodically failing to focus, so I should go sprawl, now...

We've been at my parents' place for the last two nights. Lots of Mom-food, of course. It was a bit hectic, and I've been tired from the jet lag, but accomplished some stuff. I acted as Sarah's shopping-consultant, as she *really* hates shopping & desperately needed some basics like jeans...

Today we took the train down to Pton. Got checked in with a bit of excitement on the housing front. All is well, though. Wandered around campus a bit and then managed to meet up with Dahlia and baby. Wandered around some more. Did my usual entertain-the-baby-routine, which seems to amuse the adults as well. Saw Dahlia off and wandered more, including the art museum. Need to get some food now. Hungry Rob is growling at me. Eeep! RUN!

Futzing arond in Berlin for a few days. Went to a bunch of ancient-stuff museums (poor Rob got dragged through lengthwise, luckily for him the egypt museums were closed by the time we got there). We've done lots of walking, but the distances are so huge that there's only so much you can cover without wearing the soles of your shoes off... Dunno where to find the gothy stores around here, as we haven't yet encountered them. Found a couple of absinthe places, though. So looking forward to non-German food! Sigh. Anyway, back to the states on Tues, albeit NJ. A week in NJ and then back to SF! Okee dokee. Enough for now. *hugs* to you all...

We´re alive and in Meissen right now. Tomorrow on to Dresden. WGT in Leipzig was good. Lots of running around all over the city. My main problem was the overwhelming and horrific amount of smoke in the air at the clubs. Just can´t deal. :( Anyway, after 2 days in Dresden, we´re on to 3 days in Berlin before flying out to NJ for a week. Must run away now. German keyboards are wierd....

We got to San Diego on Friday evening, after hitting a goodly bit of traffic on the way down from LA. There happenned to be a JoAnn's next to the gas staion we stopped at, on the way out of LA, so I stopped in there and got some plastic knitting needles (which were on sale, good to have since metal ones are reputedly not permitted on post-9/11 airplanes) and some yarn.

babbling behind the cut )

Anyway, tomorrow we drive back up to San Francisco. We may stop at this place in Long beach which reputedly has the largest number of beers on tap in the country. I think I'll have Rob drive up to LA, and then I'll do the rest of it, particularly if we go to the beer place. Enough for now. Must figure out dinner-place...

Just drove back down from Seattle. Left about noon after hanging out a bit with some other wedding-goers. Got into SF about 1am. We actually hit snow a couple of times, pretty significant amounts just over the border into CA (dang mountain passes!), and there was some hail in Portland. Over all not too bad, though. Just really tired now. Meh.

The wedding was nice. No disasters that I noticed, the food was good at the reception and there were a couple of amusing toasts made. Went to the Mercury on Fri night and the Vogue on Sat. Noticed that I still have trouble dealing with all of the nasty cigarette smoke. If they got rid of the smoking regs here in CA, I'd likely go out a couple of times a year instead of multiple times a week. Stayed at a nice B&B on Capitol Hill (called the 11th Avenue Inn, in case you're interested).

Catching up with 4 days of lj entries. Did I mention that I have 98 people on my friends list? Sift, sift, sift... Hopefully I catch all of the important bits...

That's it for now. Next weekend we're driving to San Diego. We'll be covering almost all of I-5 between these two trips. Shorter distance to go south, though, so that's good. See some of you at DG tomorrow.

Rob and I are in the midst of anniversary season at the moment (yesterday was the first-date and handfasting anniversary, and the 29th is the wedding anniversary). We went to a nice dinner last night at Firefly, conveniently only a few blocks from our place. We were thinking of driving somewhere (north of here? south?) and staying at a B&B or a hotsprings for a night, perhaps on the 29th. Any ideas/recommendations? We're *not* into camping, fyi.

Here's what I could think of...

1. Almost ran out of gas, in a blizzard, in the middle-of-nowhere Wyoming, in September.
2. Got blamed for said blizzard, due to singing Xmas songs immediately prior (long x-country drive).
3. Visited communist Poland 5 or 6 times (I forget). Damn it was boring!
4. Ate freshly picked blueberries swimming in fresh cream while on a hike in the mountains of Poland.
5. Broke a bone while bowling.
6. Had a broken bone treated in a Polish hospital.
7. Sang my passage (round-trip) to England on the QE2 (with my acapella group in college).
8. Taken a 2 week tour up the Nile.
9. Sat in the backseat singing Erasure songs (Yahoo!, etc) with my brother while our dad negotiated a secondary road through the mountains (it looked shorter on the map, really!) from Granada to the Costa del Sol in Spain. Mom held on to the oh-shit bar for the entire 4 hours.
10. Drove a pickup truck around Las Cruces, New Mexico.
